Wilton Water Works Minutes

January 30, 2008

COMMISSIONERS:   Chairperson Jim Tuttle; Tom Herlihy and Charles McGettigan.

Jim Tuttle called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.

Minutes – November 28, 2007

MOTION:     McGettigan/Herlihy to approve 11/28/07 minutes as printed. All were in favor.

OLD BUSINESS

1.    Holt Rd. Chlorinator Building – Tuttle reported that they have a bid for asbestos abatement and removal of the interior of the old chlorinator building on Holt Road from Dec-Tam for $2,500.

Both McGettigan and Herlihy say that the company has an excellent reputation.

MOTION:     Tuttle/Herlihy to accept Dec-Tam’s proposal at the price they quoted $2,500. All were in favor.  McGettigan will contact Dec-Tam regarding the water and power requirements before signing the contract.

2.    Interior Tank Painting – Merithew (Clerk of the Works) gave a ballpark figure for what it might cost to rehab. the tank - $161,000. McGettigan felt uncomfortable spending that much to rehab. the tank without knowing what it might cost to replace the steel tank with a concrete tank.  McGettigan will contact Stantec Consulting Services and ask them for prices for three different sized tanks. He will also ask Stantec if they provide supervision for tank painting jobs, and if so, what would they charge.

3.    Pennichuck – Herlihy asked Bernie to make a note of the water used each month and to make a       note about why so much water was used in October – the pumps were run, bypassing the water tank, for a long period of time in order to help delineate the new map of the recharge area for the wells.  There is a problem with a time lag between the time the meters are read and the time the bills are sent out. The commissioners would like to see the bills sent out no more than three weeks after the meters are read.

4.    Intervale Road Extension – Tuttle will contact various contractors to see if they are interested in doing the job.

5.    Capital Reserve Accounts & potential water rate increase to fund future projects – Herlihy proposed a meeting just to deal with these two subjects. They decided on Thursday, February 7   at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.

NEW BUSINESS

1.    The new map of the wellhead protection area has arrived from EGGI. The rest of the report is expected by March 30.

2.    A letter was sent to the NH House of Representatives opposing HB 1223.

PLACEHOLDERS

1.    Pump Station Roof – Tuttle received two bids: Henry Gibbons to provide 30-yr. shingles, 15# paper, ice shield 3’ from edge, metal drip edges on all sides, trim line shingles, ridge vent & roof cap for a price of $2,400. A similar bid was received from Al Preston, except it provided for 25-yr. shingles and did not specify the weight of the paper. The price was $1,200. Tuttle will contact Mr. Preston and ask him to adjust his bid to provide for 15# paper & 30 yr. shingles. If the bid is still the lower, he will be hired. No action taken at this meeting.

2.    Skirting for Storage Trailer – Al Preston will prepare a bid for removing the axel, building 2’ vinyl skirting as well as building stairs and deck. A bid from Henry Gibbons in the amount of $1,580 was received in July for the skirting job only. No action taken at this meeting

MOTION:     Herlihy/McGettigan To adjourn the meeting. All were in favor.

The meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
