Chairman Condra thanked Mr. Torre for the letter that he had written to the Board in reference to the fire station addition. Mr. Torre had expressed his reasons for not wanting the new addition to also include the ambulance.
Selectman Rockwood presented a letter he had written to be sent to engineering firms for quotes to do the dam study. The Board agreed that his letter was fine.
Steve McDonough gave the Board the proposal from a firm in Maine for the study of an impact fee. It was his feeling that the Planning Board had support of the study. Mr. Rockwood was in favor of the phase I study. The Planning Board had asked for the opinion of the Selectman on this study.
The Board was informed that the Selectmen are on the agenda for the Planning Board to give them an overview of the proposed fire house addition on May 19, 2010. The Board agreed that the architect and the Fire Chief should also be asked to attend the meeting. This will be informational only.
Donald Sienkiewicz attended the meeting to discuss the purchase of a piece of land that consists of approximately 20.17 acres. He presented a settlement statement that requires signatures of the Board of Selectmen. The Conservation Commission cannot sign the documents so the responsibility is that of Board of Selectmen. Mr. Sienkiewicz explained the process of how the closing would be handled. Selectmen McDonough and Selectmen Condra signed the forms. Selectman Rockwood abstained from signing the documents.
The issue of who is the Selectmen’s representative to the Ambulance Association. There will be a meeting of the Association on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Selectmen Condra and Rockwood both stated that they would attend the meeting. Selectman Rockwood will be the representative of the Board of Selectmen.
Selectman McDonough stated that he would like to revisit the thought of purchasing the Ford truck now instead of waiting another year. The Board agreed to have Steve go ahead and purchase the truck that he had been quoted from Hillsborough Ford under the state contract.
The Board reviewed and signed the bills and payroll for the week ending May 8, 2010. The correspondence was reviewed.
Selectman McDonough reported on his visit with Fire Chief Dick last Monday after the Board meeting. He explained that there is a big difference between a volunteer fire department and a paid ambulance service and that there could be problems putting the two together. Steve feels that it may be very expensive to add the ambulance bay. Steve felt that because he is a new Selectman he wanted to get the background before he could offer an opinion. Selectman Rockwood then gave the background as to giving in to not building the fire station at another location.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 on a motion with all in favor.
Respectfully submitted;
Peggy Arn, Recording Secretary
