The meeting was called
to order at 7:30 PM with the following members in attendance:
Stanley Young, Leslie
Wharton, Michael DeIl’Orto, Corinne Blagbrough, Gail
Hoar, Jerry Green
and Bob Chouinard.
Following up her wonderful work of identifing and locating old schoolhouses, Gail is now shifting her energies to barns. Should only agricultural barns be identified and cataloged? Several minutes werc spent discussing other barns, such as those attached to houses in town. It was the general consensus that all barns be included. It was noted that insurance companies are apparently putting pressure on farmers to dismantle old barns that are not in current use. Hal Meicher has introduced a bill in Concord that may help the farmer. Hal will be asked to attend the next meeting of the Heritage Commission to enlighten us regarding this problem that is of interest to our group.
Gail has been in contact with the Keene Heritage Commission and will make plans with Jean Ferrar for a visit in the near future.
“V…-“, this sign, three dots and a dash, is V in Morse code. It was discovered on the side of the old Pressed Metals building, now Wilton Falls. Presumably, it was put there by a patriotic person to boast our VICTORY at the end of World War II. Leslie asked how to protect and preserve it for the future. No conclusions were reached.
Jerry Green, our Selectman member of the Committee, brought us up to date on a few interesting situations in town. First, he informed us that there are seven wells off Burns Hill Road that should be capped for the protection of the public. However, the town must ascertain who the owners are and if any of the wells are being used. The Town is still working out details of the Russell Road Bridge and the Burton Highway Bridge. Both bridges should be in some phase of construction by this winter. An informational meeting for the public should be announced in a month or so.
Meeting adjourned at
