Heritage Commission Meeting for August 28, 2001

A seven o’clock meeting was called for by President Stanley Young to accommodate guest
speaker, Guy Holt, who canceled out at the last minute.  The meeting was officially opened at
7:20.  In attendance were Stan Young, Leslie Wharton, Robert Choulnard, Gail Hoar, and
Gail Proctor.

The first several minutes of this meeting were spent clarifying the duties of the secretary.  It was generally agreed that the minutes be typed and brought to the next meeting for approval and a copy then be sent to Town Hall where a folder is kept by town clerks.

Bob wanted to know where the town Master Plan was located and Gail Proctor showed him the copy that is kept in the library.  It will be necessary to learn what information in the Master Plan is pertinent to the Heritage Commission.  Bob inquired about a space for Heritage Commission papers, letters, and reports in the library.  Stan and Bob will talk to Carol Roberts, the librarian, about a possible location.

Inquiring about a letter sent a few months ago to a tower company who wished to build a tower in Wilton Center, Bob asked if anything had come of it.  Leslie Wharton informed us that a letter had been written and never sent as she hand carried it to a meeting on towers.  She decided at that time that the letter was not pertinent.

Leslie Wharton and Gail Hoar, as well as Michael Dell’Orto are still gathering information on the Town Hall for the historic register.

The seminar in Windsor, Vermont on September 7th will be attended by Robert and Anita Chouinard and Gail Hoar.  This is an all day affair on different aspects of Historical Commissions.

Gail Hoar will be starting to research barns and their influence in the town of Wilton.  Great excitement filled the meeting as Gail could foresee the unveiling of her labors by next September’s Apple Fest, incorporating teams of horses and carriages in downtown Wilton.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:37.
 Robert A. Chouinard.
