HERITAGE COMMISSION MEETING JULY 24, 2001

The July Meeting of the Wilton Heritage Commission was called to order at 7:30 at the Wilton Public Library.  Those members present are as follows: Corinne Blagbrough, Robert Chouinard, Stanley Young, Michael Dell’Orto, Gail Hoar, Leslie Wharton, and Tom Greeman.

Christine Fonda and Linda Wilson of the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources in Concord, N.H., graciously agreed to attend this meeting in order to help this new Heritage commission get off the ground.  Linda advised that we determine what the needs of the town are at the present time.  The Merrimack Heritage Commision is working with the Fire and Police Departments.  It was also suggested that a trip to a neighboring commission would be helpful.  The Hollis commission is said to be doing well, as is the Peterborough group.  Jennie Parker is the person to contact in Keene, should we want to visit there.

A lot of printed materials were handed out by Linda and Christine, so much so that President StanleyYoung will see into getting a shelf in the library to file our documents.

It was decided that our mail should be received through the Town Hall, Box 83, Wilton, NH 03086.

Leslie Wharton passed out a sample version of what she thought an inventory form might look like, using the Town Hall as the subject.

Gail made a motion to put the Heritage Commission tag to her research of town school houses.  This was seconded by Stan and approved.  Leslie has been researching the history of the Town Hall in preparation for placing it on the Historic Register.  She made a motion that this work be continued.  This was seconded by Stan and approved.

A September seventh seminar on training for Historical Commissions will be held in Windsor, Vt. by the National Association of Historical Commissions.  The exact time will be in the August report.

Tom Greemnan reported on his trip to the state of NY.  He brought back many leaflets and brochures describing different historical and preservation ideas that are being implemented in that state.  The secretary will keep these on file.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:30.

        Robert A. Chouinard, Secretary
