The meeting was called to order on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at 7:30 pm at the Wilton Public and Gregg Free Library. Present were Stanley Young, David Potter, Dan Donovan, and Nancy Clark.
The minutes were read and amended. The Treasurer reported there had been no change.
Stanley noted the Heritage Commission’s accomplishments over the past year:
1) The Town Hall’s National Register approval is pending.
2) The cemetery damage project was completed. The damaged
stones have been inventoried and a repair estimate has been forwarded to
the Cemetery Trustees for consideration in the 2009 budget request.
3) The downtown Whiting Mill historic kiosk was built.
4) The old Poor Farm Cemetery was found, out in the woods off
the Burton Highway.
Next, the Heritage Commission’s goals for 2009 were outlined:
1) Scenic Road designation for Dwight Road will be added to the
Warrant Article list.
2) Work will continue on clearing and studying the County Farm
Cemetery site.
3) A kiosk will be built upon a designated spot in Lot 48.
4) The Heritage Commission will assist in the Historical Society’s
project of photographing all cemetery stones.
5) Work will begin on an Historic Map and Guide to Wilton
6) The Heritage Commission will assist the Historical Society
in identifying cellar holes.
7) Work will continue on the Heritage Commission Web Site.
8) Alternate members will be appointed to the Heritage Commission
to help with various projects.
The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
