The minutes were read and approved. The Treasurer reported no money had been spent.
The Heritage Commission continues to look into the matter of the old County Farm Cemetery. Plans continue to be made by the Commission to visit the site in the woods off the Burton Highway.
It was learned that a new statute exists which states that the town does not have to schedule a hearing to approve expenditure of a cash gift or donation under the sum of $5,000. Therefore, Corinne will be able to go ahead and hire architectural historian Lisa Mausolf to research the Town Hall’s eligibility for National Register status.
Under the heading of new business, Corinne mentioned a traditional folk music performance she recently attended. Songs from the Revolutionary War era and on were featured. Corinne wondered whether the Heritage Commission, perhaps in conjunction with the Historical Society, would be interested in hiring the (three) folk singers and holding a free concert for the Town. Commission members liked the sound of the idea.
Finally, it was reported that the building of the historical display kiosk down by the police station had been delayed, but work will begin at the end of August.
The meeting adjourned at 8 pm.
Respectfully submitted.
Nancy Clark, Secretary
