The meeting was called to order on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilton Public and Gregg Free Library. Present were Michael Dell’Orto, Don Channing, David Potter, Dan Donovan, and Nancy Clark.
The minutes were read and accepted, with a correction. The Treasurer reported that no money had been spent.
Dan Donovan reported on the status of Dwight Road and the effort to designate it as a Scenic Road. Through a procedural error, the Warrant did not make it onto the docket at this year’s Town Meeting. The request will be considered next year. Also, Dan said the Selectmen supported the $4,000 request for funds to hire an architectural historian to work on the effort to achieve National Register status for Town Hall, but the Budget Committee would not consider the request.
Michael revisited the subject of National Registration status, wondering whether the Heritage Commission could find other means of funding the project. He asked about discretionary money in the budget, but most likely that will go toward emergency electrical repairs. It was decided that another, more persuasive approach will be made to the town, emphasizing the advantages of National Register status for a public building. Among those advantages may be certain cost saving concessions allowed during the renovation of an old building in re modern codes and requirements.
Gerry Wroe of the Main Street Org. told Michael that the time has come to finalize the plans for the historic kiosks which will be included in the Lot 42 design, and elsewhere downtown.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Clark, Secretary
