The meeting was called to order on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 at 7:30 pm in the Wilton Public and Gregg Free Library. Present were Stanley Young, Michael Dell’Orto, Don Channing, Phyllis Tallarico, and Nancy Clark.
The October minutes were read and accepted.
The Treasurer reported that $297 had been spent from the standard town account to pay for the French Village sign.
The text of the French Village historical marker was passed around for members to read.
Stanley reported on the two work parties that visited the Vale End and South Yard cemeteries to photograph and map the locations of damaged stones. Stanley pointed out that it would be a good idea to photograph all of the grave markers and place the images and their information on line for the use of genealogical researchers and historians. It was suggested that high resolution satellite photos might be available to provide a “plot plan” of local cemeteries.
Michael and Stanley reported that on Nov. 2 they presented a $5,000 budget request to the Budget Committee. The amount reflects the Heritage Commission’s wish to pay for an architectural historian to assess the Town Hall’s eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places.
The occupants of Four Corners Farm have applied for permission to run a day care center. The Heritage Commission has no problem with this activity as long as the exterior of the farm house isn’t affected. A play yard fence has been erected which is hardly visible and there is play equipment in the yard which is a matter of no concern to the Heritage Commission.
Stanley proposed that the December meeting of the HC be cancelled. The fourth Tuesday of the month falls on Christmas. This suggestion was voted upon and approved.
In the matter of the Dwight Road scenic designation, Dan Dononvan said the Selectman could place the proposal on the upcoming warrant. It would be easier than requiring the HC to collect signatures for the proposal’s inclusion, and it was agreed that Dan would handle this.
Stanley also noted that the state of New Hampshire is inventorying old stone culverts (bridges), in recognition of their status as items of historic interest. He suggested that Wilton’s culverts be located and inventoried.
Phyllis suggested that the Heritage Commission meet in the afternoon during the dark days of winter. It will have to be determined whether a selectman will be available to attend any meeting at that time of day.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Clark, Secretary
