The meeting was called to order on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 7:30 pm at the Wilton Public Library. Present were Stanley Young, Michael Dell’Orto, Phyllis Tallarico and Nancy Clark.
The February minutes were read and accepted as written. The Treasurer reported there was no change in the account, however, Michael bought a USB Hub wireless access point for the Historic Rooms computer for just under $80. He will submit an invoice for reimbursement.
Commission members were invited to review and amend the proposed texts of the David Whiting and Sons and Color Shop signs. Other sign locations were discussed, member suggesting Gray’s Corner, French Village, Abbot Hill and Kimball Heights as well as the Laurel Hill and Mt. Calvary cemeteries. But at present, emphasis is being placed upon finalizing plans for the downtown signage to coincide with Main Street improvements and fitting the Heritage Commission’s contributions to the project within the context of existing and evolving plans.
It was suggested that, after the library renovations are completed and the Historic Rooms can be heated year round, the rooms may be opened and manned year round. This will satisfy public demand for access to the collections and access, although there will be staffing questions to consider.
The documentation program has been suspended during renovations: too much dirt and dust is being raised in the vicinity of the computer. Michael continues to work on devising a protocol for helpers to follow once the project resumes. On the matter of dirt and dust in the Historic Rooms, commission members agreed to meet in the rooms on the afternoon of March 29 to dust and drape display cases and book cases and other objects.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Clark, Secretary
