WILTON HERITAGE COMMISSION MINUTES FOR JULY 25, 2006

The meeting was called to order on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 7:30 pm in the Wilton Public Library. Present were Stanley Young, Phyllis Tallarico, Corinne Blagbrough, Richard Rockwood and Nancy Clark.

The minutes for the June 27, 2006 meeting were read and accepted as written. The Treasurer reported a balance of $657.47. Another house sign has been ordered

The Commission is looking forward to delivery of the West Wilton, Vale End, Old County Farm and Davisville signs. Final decisions concerning the siting of the signs must be run past the appropriate town agencies. Neighborhood residents will be consulted as well, to give them a voice in the process.

In the matter of Four Corner Farms -- a comparison of photographs taken in February, 2004, May, 2005 and April, 2006 shows that an existing exterior third floor fire escape has been removed and replaced with a new fire escape. The Heritage Commission was not notified of these changes and it is the understanding of the Commission that they ought to have been informed. However, the HC will seek clarification on the terms of the easement before taking any action.

A Nashua Telegraph article describing the town of Fitzwilliam’s downtown historical walking tour was noted. Something similar could be done in Wilton, a brochure and map developed for sightseers, timed to become available when the Main Street improvements are complete. A seasonal guided walking tour will also be considered.

Finally, the Commission will look into the subject of stone walls. Just how much protection existing state law affords them will be determined and further preservations guidelines may be proposed by the commission.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted.

Nancy Clark, Secretary
N.B. The next meeting of the Heritage Commission will take place on the third Tuesday of the month, September, 19, 2006
