Heritage Commission Meeting for 26 November, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 at the Wilton Public Library. Members in attendance were Corinne Blagbrough, Robert Chouinard, Michael Dell Orto, Stanley Young, and Phyllis Tallarico.

The decision has been made to have the tri-fold printed describing the Heritage Commission’s goals and function. Stanley obtained information about New England Duplicators in Manchester NH. They could print 500 copies for about $585. Michael will go ahead to make arrangements to have this printing done. The tri-folds will be distributed as a hand-out at the Town Hall, Library, Putnam’s and some local Real Estate Offices.

Michael will talk to Selectman Jerry Green about the feasibility of starting reserve funds for the Heritage Commission in the future. Types of funds will be discussed at a later date.

A letter was received from Board of Selectman Chairman David W. Glines thanking us for our involvement and support in the town’s purchase of the remaining acres on Carnival Hill.

Although the Good News Bible Church is in the hands of realtor Sam Proctor, the building has not been offered to the public as yet. Stan and Mike met with Sam and the church elders and learned that they were not receptive to an appraisal or an inspection of the building. A special meeting at the Unitarian Red House is scheduled on December 4 at 7PM to assess the interest of the residents of Wilton Center regarding this church. Mike will call his neighbors in Wilton Center to invite them to the meeting.

Regarding our long quest for roadside plaques, Mike has informed the committee that  information for two of the three plaques has been sent to Liz Muzzey in Concord. The information on Wilton Center and Davisville were complete but not enough documentation was found for the West Wilton plaque and it was held back.

Our next meeting will be held 17 December 2002.

Robert A. Chouinard: Secretary
