New to Wilton from Out of State:

Vehicle registrations and drivers licensing should be processed within 60 days of moving to NH.

NH requires titles for all vehicles 1997 or newer and for all trailers 1997 or newer and weighing 3001 lbs. or more.  Along with the title we need the current odometer reading.  If two owners are named, two signatures are needed on the NH title application before it is completed at the state level.

If there is a lienholder on a vehicle two options are available to the driver:

1)  If the registration and insurance are valid and will remain valid for awhile a two step process can be started with making application for a NH title.  To do so the driver should contact their lienholder, let them know they have moved, and obtain the complete address where the title is being held.  By using their current out of state registration and the lienholder information a NH title application can be typed up in our office.  This will then be mailed to the Concord DMV who will in turn exchange titles with your lienholder.  The driver will eventually receive a letter from the Concord Title Department letting them know they can proceed with the auto registration process.  In the meantime new residents continue to drive on their out of state registration and plates.

2) If the registration and or insurance are expired or will expire within 20 days (proof is required) a driver can qualify for a “hardship title & hardship registration”.  Our office needs to see proof of the expiration of registration or insurance, the current registration and the odometer reading.  We will type up the NH title and registration and complete the state portion or the owner can proceed to the Milford Motor Vehicle to complete the process.

If the vehicle is 1997 or newer and there is no lienholder, the applicant must have a title to register in NH.  1996 vehicles and older require a bill of sale, out of state registration or title and possibly a vehicle identification verification form to be completed.  Ask for more details.

New NH residents can obtain their NH drivers license Thursday & Friday 8:30AM – 4:00PM at the Milford Motor Vehicle. They need to bring the following documents to the state motor vehicle office: a current valid out of state license; proof of residency; a certified birth certificate and a certified marriage license if the birth name and the current name are different.

Drivers aged 16 and 17 years need to have the “pink” slip completed by a parent/guardian or their insurance company before every registration is completed at the town office or at the Milford Motor Vehicle Office.

Voters can register anytime at the town office.  Voter registration can also be done at the polls on Election day.  All elections are held at the Town Hall. Town elections are held 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.  State and Federal elections are held 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.  Absentee ballots are available to registered voters.  Please ask for more details.

Dogs are required to be licensed by April 30th every year.  Proof of rabies vaccination is required.  Cats do not need to be licensed!

Trash:  Wilton is one of the first towns in the country to require mandatory recycling. A detailed flyer is available at the Recycling Center or at the Town Hall.
