WILTON BOARD OF CEMETERY TRUSTEES
PO Box 83     Wilton, NH 03086

Draft Minutes of September 23, 2009

Present: All Trustees-
                Mr. Carl Michaud

The Trustees approved the minutes of August 18, 2009.
• Discussion Items
    o Trustees recognized Carl Michaud.
-Mr. Michaud requested the Town donate a grave to allow him to bury the ashes of 15 unclaimed remains that have been in his attic for a lengthy period. The remains go back as far as 1930. If the Town agreed to donate the grave, Carl will donate a marker that will include the names of all the deceased.  The Trustees agreed to consider the request. To assist the Trustees in their decision, Carl will forward a copy of the RSA that allows him to take care of unclaimed remains.
-Mr. Michaud also recommended to the Trustees that they adopt a form used as an Open Grave Work Order. The form allows that all parties involved in the opening of a grave are properly informed and records properly maintained.  Mr. Michaud agreed to forward a copy of a form used by another town as an example. The Trustees agreed to review a form design for possible use.
-While Mr. Michaud was present, the Trustees asked if he had any additional information regarding Green burials. He informed the Trustees that he has an offering to families wishing for a Green burial that will comply with the Towns Cemetery Rules and Regulations.  He uses a bottomless vault that will allow the remains and casket to decompose into the soil below the vault.
-The Trustees thanked Mr. Michaud for his valuable input to the meeting.
o Brian reported that Mr. Rick Medlyn repaired most of the broken head stones at South Yard and Vale End.  A few stones were beyond repair due to missing pieces. Although we have yet to get the bill for the project, Mr. Medlyn was aware of the amount the Trustees had to spend in this year’s budget. This was great news.
o Update on Mt. Calvary- Doreece has not received any information from the Diocese of Manchester to clarify who is eligible to be buried in Mt. Calvary. If time permits, Doreece will attend the next Selectmen’s meeting to request assistance in moving this issue forward.
o The police notified Doreece that they found a car parked in one of the cemeteries while the driver was hunting in the surrounding woods.  The driver was notified that they can no longer park in a cemetery unless they are attending a funeral or visiting a grave.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the Town Hall Office at 7 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Maureen Donovan
