Present: All Trustees-
The minutes of January 20, 2009 were accepted.
Rules and Regulations are to be reviewed and changed to consistently
identify lots sold by the number of graves.
Trustees are to identify the family members of graves decorated with
items prohibited under the Rules and Regulation. Letters will be sent requesting
removal of such items within 30 days.
Eagle Scout, Will Tremblay, has undertaken a project to assist the
Cemetery Trustees in identifying the gravesites of veterans. He will
begin his project with the Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Town and the Cemetery
Trustees appreciate his assistance.
Trustees reconfirmed their response to outsiders requesting approval
to investigate paranormal activity in the Vale End Cemetery. The Trustees
will send letters denying approval for such activities due to the risk
of danger to the parties involved as well as potential damage to the grounds
of the cemetery.
Trustees discussed the request of the Catholic diocese to provide
the necessary assistance to citizens requesting to purchase a Right to
Inter in Mt Calvary, as well as to provide the required service of town
employees to open needed burial sites. Decisions on this topic are
the responsibility of the Wilton Town Selectman.
Brian will contact Medlyn Monuments to negotiate the repair of as
many stones as possible with the funds approved in this years budget.
Trustees wish to acknowledge the assistance of Charles McGettigan.
His extensive knowledge of the town and its citizens proved very valuable
to folks who came to Wilton in search of the graves of their relatives.
Goals established for the balance of 2009:
o Review and revise the
cemetery rules and regulations
o Ensure grave sites comply
with the Landscaping and Decorations approved in the rules and regulations
o Continue to apply lime
as needed in an effort to grow grass and avoid the soil returning to the
poor conditions found several years ago.
o Review the Cemetery roads
and identify an action plan for future repair based on the order of greatest
need
The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, at the Town Hall
Office at 7 PM.
